Unique winter offering capitalises on hugely successful 2008 season
Drayton Manor Theme Park’s winter opening in the build up to Christmas and into the New Year has proved a popular move with guests to the UK venue.
Following a hugely successful 2008 season, the park opened for Drayton’s Magical Christmas from November 22nd. to December 23rd. and again from December 27th. to January 4th., attractions on offer during this extended period being Thomas Land, the Drayton Manor Zoo and Santa’s Magical Christmas live show.
Suitable winter theming including spectacular lighting, Christmas trees and decorations, snow machines, reindeer and Santa himself all helped transform Thomas Land into a traditional Christmas scene, while guests were also able to enjoy the numerous rides and attractions on offer in this newest area of the park, including train rides with Thomas and Percy. Singers performed to guests at regular intervals during the day, while the Fat Controller and other characters from the famous Thomas and Friends series were on hand to greet visitors.
“Opening Thomas Land for the 2008 season gave us a great opportunity to provide our guests with something special over the Christmas period, ” commented Helen Pawley-Tuft, Drayton Manor’s General Manager Central Services, “and we’ve been delighted with the response to this new offering. We have put together a good value for money package including Thomas Land, a new live show and the Drayton Manor Zoo and it’s been very well received.”
The live show, Santa’s Magical Christmas, took place in the park’s Big Top Theatre and was specially written and produced by Paul Hammond at Hamagination. Featuring Father Christmas and his helpers, along with a variety of other characters, dancers and professional skaters, the show told the story of a young girl who is taken on a fairytale journey to learn the true meaning of Christmas, while additional elements included an ice skating rink and spectacular acrobatics.
Although the Christmas and New Year opening period ends on January 4th., Drayton Manor will open again in February for the annual school half term holiday, from February 14th. to 22nd., while the 2009 season proper, which will see the opening of another major new attraction, will commence on March 21st.
