Legacy Entertainment to design Ocean Park in Beijing

Unique marine life park is expected to open to visitors in 2027

Legacy Entertainment, a leading theme park and resort design company, has announced that it has been appointed lead designer for Beijing Haichang Ocean Park, following an international tender.

The project was officially announced in November 2023 and is expected to attract 3.5 million people per year when it opens in Beijing’s Tongzhou district in 2027.

The new, expansive aquarium complex is being built by Beijing Tongzhou Urban Construction and Operation Group Co., Ltd. and operated by Haichang Ocean Park. The development aims to further enhance the Beijing Sub-Central Cultural Tourism Zone, which is home to Universal Studios Beijing.

Eric Carnagey, managing director and co-owner of Legacy Entertainment, says: “We are honored to have been selected as the designer of this highly-anticipated project. With the combined talents of the involved parties, we have the opportunity to create one of the best and most unique marine life parks in the entire world.”

Legacy Entertainment has designed some of the most renowned aquariums and oceanariums in the world during the past ten years. These include the recently opened Chimelong Spaceship, which presently holds seven world records, and The Sea Shell at VinWonders Phu Quoc in Vietnam.

Legacy previously worked with Haichang on the design for its flagship park in Shanghai. Since its opening in 2018, the 5 billion RMB park has garnered numerous honours and accolades, including being recognised as “China’s Best Theme Park” by multiple organisations.

Carnagey concludes: “With each of our aquarium projects, we aim to raise the bar for animal care and education outreach. For this new project in Beijing, we plan to combine these touchstones with an unprecedented degree of ‘Wow!’ factor to create a project that will not only stand out in China, but throughout the entire world.”

Last month, Legacy Entertainment announced its plans to launch in Saudi Arabia at the Saudi Entertainment and Amusement (SEA) Expo, which took place in Riyadh from 7 to 9 May. This was Legacy’s first public presentation in the Kingdom, although the company has been operating in the region for several years. It is currently working on four projects in the Middle East.
