Alton Towers has set an opening date for the world's first Bluey roller coaster, also unveiling a giant Bluey portrait made from 11,494 bean cans.

Themed to Bluey and Bingo's iconic grannies game, Bluey the Ride: Here Come the Grannies! is opening on 28 March in Alton Towers' CBeebies Land.

As for the Bluey artwork, this depicts Bluey dressed as her granny alter ego Janet and is located on the park's lawn near CBeebies Land.

The installation measures 20 by 15 metres and is inspired by the 'Grannies' episode of Bluey, in which Bingo's character Rita slips on a tin of beans.

"'Grannies' is an iconic episode of Bluey. We also know that fans associate beans with Bluey and Bingo dressing up as Janet and Rita," said Natasha Spence, events director, live entertainment at BBC Studios.

"We are delighted to be working with the team at Alton Towers to create the world's first Bluey coaster for families across the UK to enjoy this spring.

"Bluey the Ride: Here Come the Grannies! is specifically designed for pre-schoolers and young families who are taken on a journey through Bluey’s Backyard."

As well as the new coaster and existing Bluey experiences, including the Heeler family meet-and-greet and live stage show, Alton Towers is introducing additional Bluey-themed rooms at the CBeebies Land Hotel.

"The 'Grannies' episode is a firm favourite with our guests, so creating a giant Bluey made from more than 11,000 bean cans felt like the perfect way to mark the countdown to opening day," said Howard Ebison, vice president of Alton Towers.

"It’s playful, unexpected and unmistakably Bluey – and we can’t wait to welcome families from March 28 to experience the world’s first Bluey coaster right here at Alton Towers Resort."

Via a press release, Bluey is the number one show on CBeebies in the UK and has been streamed over 1 billion times since it launched on BBC iPlayer.
