Moonwalkers production explores humankind’s expeditions to the moon

London’s Lightroom art centre has opened a new immersive experience called ‘The Moonwalkers: A Journey with Tom Hanks’.

Running through 21 April 2024, the critically-acclaimed Moonwalkers production in King’s Cross explores humankind’s past and future expeditions to the moon.

Actor and writer Tom Hanks and co-writer Christopher Riley tell the stories of the Apollo missions as Lightroom is transformed with original NASA footage and images from Andy SaundersApollo Remastered.

The Moonwalkers also features an original score by Anne Nikitin, as well as interviews between Hanks and the astronauts of the upcoming Artemis programme.

“As a youth, I was deeply affected by the Apollo missions finally taking us to the moon for the first time in human history.  I would have gone myself, given the chance,” said Hanks.

“I’ve worked on many projects to recreate those times and to bring alive the scale, the risks, and the accomplishment of the voyages; the dedication and commitment of the human being who made each journey, the story of each chapter of Apollo.”

The Moonwalkers is co-directed by 59 Productions’ Nick Corrigan and Lysander Ashton. The company is behind Lightroom’s David Hockney show.

“The extraordinary, unique production capabilities of Lightroom have allowed me, alongside writer Christopher Riley, directors Nick Corrigan and Lysander Ashton, and composer Anne Nikitin, to tell what we believe is the most visceral and enthralling version to date,” Hanks added.

“We can include everyone on humanity’s journey beyond our earth of fifty years ago and for those about to come with a prelude to the next time human beings will walk on the moon: the Artemis missions.”
