For-profit art collective Meow Wolf is set to open a new exhibition in Las Vegas as part of Area15, a retail and entertainment complex located a short distance from the Las Vegas Strip that is due to open in 2019.

Area15 is a joint development of the Fisher Brothers and Beneville Studios, a design and architecture firm. It includes 126,000 square feet to be leased to retail and entertainment firms as well as a mezzanine and space for indoor and outdoor venues for up to 3,000 spectators. Meow Wolf is the first anchor tenant and will take approximately 50,000 square feet to create an immersive art experience. The company has previously hosted temporary exhibits in Las Vegas at outdoor festivals.

Winston Fisher of Fisher Brothers told the Santa Fe New Mexican that Area15 will be an innovative experience for visitors with dining, retail and entertainment options as well as space for events and exhibits. “We don’t think retail is dead; we think retail has changed,” he said.

Earlier this month, Meow Wolf announced plans for an interactive exhibit and music venue in downtown Denver. The $30 million project is set to open in 2020 and was the company’s first long-term expansion from Santa Fe, New Mexico. Both of the new venues are expected to generate 100 jobs while most of the construction of the exhibits will be handled in Santa Fe.
