As China’s space programme takes off, there are plans to develop the Wenchang Space Education Center into a world class space theme park.
The Education Center is close to the Wenchang Space Launch Center, where China’s first cargo spacecraft Tianzhou-1 was launched last month.
Tianzhou 1 is the debut mission of the Tianzhou-class unmanned cargo spacecraft which is being developed as part of China’s manned space programme. Tianzhou means “heavenly vessel” in Chinese. On 20 April 2017, Tianzhou 1 was launched by rocket Long March 7 at China’s Wenchang Spacecraft Launch Site, and successfully docked with the Tiangong-2 space laboratory two days later.
Space enthusiasts visit the Wenchang Space Education Center to learn more about Tianzhou-1’s mission and space exploration. Visitors can see models of rockets, satellites and space suits as well as enjoying a VR space experience and a two-seater gyroscope simulating astronaut training.
ECNS.cn report that attraction’s investors are looking to expand their facilities into a space theme park which will be finished by the end of the year.
Wang Xiaojia, the deputy manager of Wenchang Tourism Investment, said, “In addition to this science center, we are going to introduce more high-tech experience facilities and provide better services for tourists.
“This space theme park will build on the experiences of the US space theme park in Houston and other space theme parks around the world.”
