Rovio Angry Birds Immersive Gamebox

Family-friendly action with popular characters now in North America and Europe

Rovio Entertainment Corporation, a Finnish mobile-first gaming company and creator of the Angry Birds brand, has announced a partnership with Immersive Gamebox, a group gaming platform reinventing how video games are played.

The unique collaboration marks the debut of the first multiplayer slingshot in an Angry Birds game, available at twelve Immersive Gamebox locations in the US and the UK from June earlier this year. The chain was formerly known as Electric Gamebox until earlier this month.

Multi-level gameplay

Players will compete in teams to eliminate virtual foes with the slingshots on either side of The Gamebox in the multi-level gameplay, based on the Angry Birds series.

With multiplayer action for two to six players in a private Gamebox, the hyper-immersive Rovio experience combines motion tracking sensors worn by participants, surrounded by touch screens. It offers a collaborative variation on the beloved Angry Birds games and well-known characters.

The two firms have worked together to create a lifesize Angry Birds game, as part of the partnership fostered by IMG.

“Rovio’s mission is to craft joy, so being able to bring the iconic Angry Birds game to an in-person, life-sized environment is a wonderful opportunity and Immersive Gamebox is the perfect partner to do this with,” says director of brand licensing at Rovio Entertainment Katri Chacona. “Our fans are ready to have yet another way to play a game we all know and love!”

Will Dean, the creator of the well-known obstacle course Tough Mudder, and CFO David Spindler, the creator of Tough Mudder Bootcamp, co-founded Immersive Gamebox, which offers intense games in engaging digital smart rooms, or “Gameboxes.”

Two to six players can participate in games with the Gameboxes that last between 15 and 60 minutes. Each Gamebox comes equipped with a variety of cutting-edge technology, including projection mapping, touch screens, 3D motion tracking, and patent-pending Lidar, all without the use of eyewear.

Completely unique concept

The in-house studio of Immersive Gamebox has produced an increasing number of licenced and original IP games such as Angry Birds. By the end of the year, more locations will open in cities all over the world.

Dean says: “We are in the business of using technology to bring people together through shared play. We could not be more excited to revisit the iconic Angry Birds franchise through a totally unique format. The interactive, competitive yet friendly, version of this game will be exciting for long-time and new fans alike.”

More information on Immersive Gamebox and tickets are available from the venues’ website.

Rovio recently celebrated the success of its collaboration with Topgolf in the US, which has rolled out an Angry Birds interactive golf experience at select US venues with Toptracer technology.
