Collaboration with high-tech golf entertainment venues scoops two top awards in 2021

Rovio Entertainment Corporation, a Finnish mobile-first gaming company and creator of the Angry Birds brand, is celebrating the success of its collaboration with Topgolf in the US.

The Angry Birds interactive golf experience was rolled out at select US Topgolf venues in 2020 with Toptracer technology, bringing together the classic fun of golf and the digital, physics-based destruction of Angry Birds.

It proved a hit with fans, quickly becoming Topgolf’s second most popular game, and went on to win Best Licensed Product in the category of digital apps, software and video games at the Licensing International Excellence awards 2021, and the Best Brand Experience category in the North American Transform Awards 2021.

Awards win for Angry Birds x Topgolf

The experience, which replaces the Angry Birds slingshots with golf clubs, allows players to whack the Angry Birds characters into towers teeming with green pigs, and have their shots traced accurately onto an Angry Birds level.

Speaking after the Angry Birds x Topgolf collaboration’s win at the North American Transform Awards, Rovio’s director of brand licensing, Katri Chacona, said:

“We’re extremely honored for Angry Birds to have received the Best Licensed Product award at the Licensing International Awards, and for the game to win the Best Brand Experience category in the 2021 Transform Awards NA. We knew the Angry Birds would be a perfect fit for the Topgolf experience, and that has really shown in how many people have had fun playing Angry Birds at Topgolf venues.

“We’re fortunate that we could bring the fun, humor, and delightful destruction of the Angry Birds games to Topgolf in a way that resonates with people. That’s a testament to the hard work of everyone involved!”

Topgolf’s director of marketing, Michael Angelides added: “We just celebrated one year of having the Angry Birds game at many of our Topgolf venues and it’s been inspiring to see so many of our guests having a great time playing what is now one of our most popular games.

“The Topgolf team, especially those who worked so hard to bring this game to life, was truly honored to receive the Licensing International award and to now be recognized at the 2021 Transform Awards together with our partners at Rovio. We can’t wait to introduce more fun to the Angry Birds Topgolf game that we know our guests won’t want to miss!”

Guests can try the experience for themselves at select Topgolf locations in the US, as well as at Topgolf Dubai.
