California says an announcement is coming “very, very shortly” on issuing COVID-19 guidelines for reopening theme parks. Disneyland Resort’s president says he’s “disappointed” in the lack of progress in California.

California Governor Gavin Newsom has said that an announcement is coming “very, very shortly” on issuing COVID-19 guidelines that would allow theme parks to safely reopen in the state.

“We will be making announcements soon as it relates to theme parks and amusement parks,” said Newsom (via The OCR).

“Making announcements soon as it relates to some areas, industries as well as sectors and putting out additional guidelines in those spaces very very shortly.”

Disneyland Resort president Ken Potrock also called on the state to issue COVID-19 guidelines for safely reopening theme parks, saying he’s “disappointed” in a lack of progress in California.

“We are disappointed with the state’s lack of progress in providing the industry with guidance and clarity on reopening,” said Potrock (via The OCR).

‘We’ll be making announcements soon,’ said Newsom

“We have proven we can operate responsibly, with strict health and safety protocols at our properties around the world and at Downtown Disney in Anaheim.

“Tens of thousands of people’s livelihoods depend on our ability to operate and we stand ready and willing to accelerate discussions with the governor and his team to make ‘real progress’ toward our reopening and getting people back to work.”

This comes after the California Attractions and Parks Association (CAPA) urged Newsom to issue guidelines that would allow theme parks to reopen in California.

Earlier this month, Newsom said that California is “getting closer” to reopening theme parks. It was previously revealed that state officials were “actively” working with California parks.

Disney, Universal and SeaWorld executive also said at a recent roundtable that theme parks in California are “ready to roll” as soon as the state issues guidelines.
