Orlando: Disney Government Spends Millions on Transportation Projects

"Fender benders with buses, traffic snarls at the Magic Kingdom parking entrance, and overall growth are fueling transportation projects throughout Walt Disney World, " writes Sandra Pedicini in The Orlando Sentinel.

She outlines the way Reedy Creek, the Disney-controlled taxing district, is tackling the growth in traffic - and traffic incidents -and has already approved$350 million worth of projects to be completed by 2018. Measures include:

  • A2-mile Western Way extension
  • Abridge taking hotel traffic over the Magic Kingdom's toll plaza
  • Abypass providing better access to Floridian Way.
Furthermore, avote will take place next month toapprove the issuance of $80 million in bonds for a third Disney Springs parking garage.
