Disneyland Resort in Anaheim may still be closed to visitors, but it will soon be stepping up to help with the fight against COVID-19 by opening its doors as a Super Point-of-Dispensing site (POD).

The vaccination site is likely to open later this week and will provide COVID-19 vaccinations by appointment for those on the priority list for Orange County, including frontline healthcare workers and those aged 75 or over.

“I’m proud to have Disneyland Resorts and the City of Anaheim, both in my Fourth District, be the first of the Super POD sites in Orange County,” said Supervisor Doug Chaffee in a press release. “Residents in my district have been highly impacted by COVID-19. These Super PODs are absolutely critical in stopping this deadly virus.”

Disneyland helps fight COVID-19

Disneyland Resort is one of the five Super PODs set up in the region, alongside other large-capacity venues like the Dodger Stadium. These plans will allow for the vaccination of thousands of local people every day.

Earlier this week, California Governor Gavin Newsom made the announcement that mass vaccination will soon be underway in the county as it battles to lower transmission rates, tweeting that: “Our goal continues to be fast, equitable, and safe vaccinations statewide.”

“The Disneyland Resort, the largest employer in the heart of Orange County, has stepped up to host the county’s first Super POD (point-of-dispensing) site – undertaking a monumental task in our vaccination distribution process,” acting Board of Supervisors Chairman Andrew Do said in a news release.

At the end of 2020, Disneyland Resort also launched a PSA campaign, using characters from Disney and Pixar’s The Incredibles to remind residents to follow COVID-19 health and safety guidelines. The Together We Can Be Incredible campaign encourages locals to wear a mask, keep a safe social distance going, and to wash their hands frequently.
