IMG unveils plans for Second Theme Park in Dubai

Theoperator and owner of IMG Worlds of Adventure in Dubai - the world's largest indoor theme park-Ilyas & Mustafa Galadari Group has announced thata new park will be createdopposite the existing park.

Covering 2 million square feet, "IMG Worlds of Legends" will be over twice the size of the existing park. It will bespread overnine zones andwillinclude interactive rides, roller coasters, live entertainmentandwater-based attractions. The attraction will beunder a temperature-controlled environment with a retractable roof.


The new theme park and attractions will be populated with characters from the stables of major IP holders. These includeUbisoft, Mattel, Nickelodeon, Saban Brands, Pokémon, Cartoon Network, Toei Animation and TV TOKYO.

It will be connected toIMG World of Adventure via a sky bridge and a pedestrian walkway. Amulti-park pass will be available.

Construction is set to start 2017 with an opening planned for 2019.

IMG and Nickelodeon

Onearea will boastup to 12 Nickelodeon-branded rides and attractions.Character properties will includeSpongeBob SquarePants and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Gerald Raines, SVP, Global Recreation Business Development, Nickelodeon, said, “We are working with IMG to develop a Nickelodeon park within their larger Worlds of Legends theme park. Thisis the phase two of their Worlds of Adventure theme park that opened earlier this year.

“The Nickelodeon area will be part of a park with other non-Nick properties, including Cartoon Network and Marvel. Though details of its size are being kept under wraps, it is expected to be one of the largest Nickelodeon parks in the world."

The new Dubai park continues the growth ofNickelodeon-branded attractions across the world.

“Our U.S. base is strong but we are seeing the most growth in this sector internationally.There are emerging markets that are craving Western IPs, ” Raines said.
