Electric Eel to open ahead of schedule at SeaWorld San Diego

News
SeaWorld San Diego Electric Eel

The Electric Eel launch coaster will debut at SeaWorld San Diego on 10 May, two days before the originally planned date.

The final elements of construction have progressed quicker than expected allowing SeaWorld San Diego to move up the launch of Electric Eel. Topping out at 45m high with a top speed of 99kmh, the roller coaster is the tallest and fastest the park has ever built.

Electric Eel was designed by Premier Rides based on its Sky Rocket II model, similar to Tempesto at Busch Gardens Williamsburg, also owned by SeaWorld. It is a multi-launch coaster with a unique shuttle design. The ride starts with a 45m ascent before twisting and turning through a variety of inversions.

The new coaster is part of the Ocean Explorer attraction and will feature an eel aquarium. The theming will include lighting and sound techniques to simulate the generation of electricity both on the ride and in the plaza.

“Electric Eel will bring a whole new level of excitement to SeaWorld,” said Marilyn Hannes, the park’s president, when announcing the original opening date of 12 May.

“This new, first-of-its-kind coaster at SeaWorld will give riders the rare opportunity to feel what it’s like to move like an eel, twisting and flipping along nearly 900 feet of undulating track.”
