A brand new dark ride will open at Italy’s Gardaland this year, based on the popular Sony Pictures Jumanji franchise and designed by Merlin Magic Making.
Gardaland has revealed a sneak preview of Jumanji – The Adventure’s specially-designed ride vehicles:
The Sony Pictures film franchise is worth $2 billion and this new family-friendly attraction will be the world’s first ride inspired by the popular adventure films. It will take riders through 12 different scenes on multi-motion ride vehicles.
These unique vehicles will transport riders into the world of the Jumanji game, where they will come across a range of hazards and obstacles along the way. Audio and video effects simulate the movements of an off-road experience, spinning and rolling.
Last month, the theme park unveiled an enormous ‘Stone Giant’ animatronic that has been created for the new dark ride.
A race against time in the jungle
“Guests will make their way through the jungle facing dangerous animals and obstacles of all kinds,” said Gardaland in a recent press release.
“In a race against time, the adventurers’ mission will be to return the sacred and precious jewel to the legendary temple and save Jumanji. In particular, they will have to face the animatronics: the huge hippo that takes everyone by surprise when it appears from a swamp, and scary spiders that drop down onto the moving vehicle, as well as the roaring Stone Giant who bursts out of a cave and blocks their way with his hand.”
Jumanji is Sony Pictures’ biggest wholly-owned film franchise of all time. The original Robin Williams film, released in 1995, has become a cult favourite, and has since been followed by Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017) and Jumanji: The Next Level (2019), starring Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Jack Black, Karen Gillan and Kevin Hart
Merlin Entertainments‘ Gardaland Resort is home to Gardaland Park, Legoland Water Park and the SEA LIFE Aquarium, as well as the Gardaland Hotel, Gardaland Adventure Hotel and Gardaland Magic Hotel.
