Merlin has invested £500,000 in 21 accessibility projects this year

Merlin Entertainments has unveiled some of its new accessibility projects, which include a sensory room and a descriptive audio tour.

The UK-based operator is marking International Day of Persons with Disabilities today (3 December) with the news that it has invested £500,000 in 21 accessibility projects across eight countries this year. The company plans to invest more in the future.

These projects include new facilities and upgrades to existing amenities. One of them is a new sensory room at Sea Life Sydney to open in December. This features calming lighting, tactile elements and soothing soundscapes.

Inclusivity at Merlin’s attractions

Legoland Billund in Denmark is to debut upgraded disabled toilets with an adult changing area with a lift, while Madame Tussauds Singapore has installed ramps to raised platforms for wheelchair users.

Elsewhere, Sea Life Charlotte-Concord has introduced a descriptive audio tour for visitors with visual impairments. The audio tour includes numbered stops in braille.

“At Merlin Entertainments, we want to be the attraction operator of choice for visitors of all abilities. Our £500,000 investment underscores our commitment to making inclusivity a fundamental part of our attractions,” said Kate McBirnie, accessibility manager at Merlin.

“Whether it’s a sensory-friendly room or advanced restroom facilities, our goal is to ensure that accessibility is not just a feature, but a shared mission.”
