Resorts World Genting, Malaysia expects to receive 30 million visitors by 2020 fuelled by the expected opening of the 20th Century Fox World theme park this year.

Katherine Chew, vice-president of communications and PR at Resorts World Genting, Malaysia, recently spoke to BW Hotelier while on a trip to India. She said that the company expects Indian tourists to make up a large percentage of the resort’s visitors.

“Indians love shopping, fun and adventure. This family destination will offer an enriching experience for one and all,” she said.

“Indian tourist will come back to the theme parks and we hope to invite more Indians to the resort. By 2020, we expect 30 million tourist arrivals and India will contribute to this percentage in a huge way.”

After a string of delays, 20th Century Fox World looks set to open this year. The park was first announced in 2013 and was originally scheduled to open in 2016. It will include rides and attractions based on Fox IPs such as Ice Age, Rio, Predator and Night at the Museum.

The SkyTropolis Indoor Theme Park is also set to open alongside 20th Century Fox World at the resort.

Resorts World Genting, Malaysia includes more than 10,000 rooms of accommodation as well as a range of food, retail and recreation options. It currently receives around 60,000 visitors per day.

Earlier this week, a second planned 20th Century Fox World theme park, intended for Dubai, was put on hold by developer Al Ahli Holding Group following concerns about oversupply.
