Universal Epic Universe will feature immersive technologies like omnidirectional ride vehicles, motion simulation and special effects.
Jeff Polk, executive VP and general manager of Epic Universe at Universal Orlando Resort, offered a sneak peek at the new theme park’s experiences during the August luncheon of the International Drive Resort Area Chamber of Commerce, as reported by Orlando Inno.
At the park’s Ministry of Magic land, Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry will be one of Universal’s most impressive rides to date, with immersive environments and unique ride technology.
This includes omnidirectional ride vehicles, a trackless ride system, high-resolution projections and media screens, smoke effects, motion simulation, interactive elements such as wands and wearables, real-time control systems, spatial audio technology, and augmented reality (AR).
Innovative rides and experiences
“This ride is going to take you into the Wizarding World and… let you experience what it feels like to [fly like] you see in the movies, moving back and forth and up and down and side to side… and telling the story of the trial of Dolores Umbridge,” said Polk.
At Super Nintendo World‘s Donkey Kong Country, Mine-Cart Madness is a unique family-friendly coaster using an unprecedented ride system and innovative technology.
This will feature advanced coaster engineering including dynamic track elements like gaps and splash effects.
“You will feel as if you’re in the little mine carts on a very rickety track, jumping over gaps in the track across the fronts of waterfalls and splashing down into the water,” he said.
As for the House to Train Your Dragon land at Epic Universe, a family-friendly thrill coaster named Hiccup’s Wing Gliders has a ride system that simulates flying on a dragon through motion-based technology.
“The [wing glider] is really this contraption to help you learn how to fly on the back of the dragon,” Polk said.
Finally, the Dark Universe land will use special effects. “You’ll enter through this electrified portal, you’ll see electricity coursing through all the buildings throughout the entire world, through the town of Dartmoor that you’ll enter,” said Polk.
Epic Universe, the fourth theme park at Universal Orlando, is on track to open in 2025.
