Theme Parks: Six Flags Magic Mountain Adds 16th Coaster to Its Renowned Collection

News

Six Flags Magic Mountain unveiled the latest addition to its supreme coaster dynasty with the debut of Terminator(R) Salvation(TM): The Ride. This wooden marvel opens to the public on Saturday, May 23, combining innovative thrill technology with the signature science fiction punch of the Terminator Salvation(TM) brand.

The newest addition to the park’s world famous coaster collection coincides with the release of the McG directed film, Terminator Salvation(TM), and introduces fans to an entirely new universe inspired by the film’s post apocalyptic setting. Developed by the same team that produced last year’s new X2 experience, Terminator(R) Salvation(TM): The Ride will feature synchronized on-board audio, a loading station "fly-thru, " two tunnels and fire and fog special effects. There is also a unique pre-show featuring stars, Common and Moon Bloodgood that was produced exclusively for the ride and shot by the Director of Photography for Terminator Salvation(TM), Shane Hurlbut.

The $10 million coaster, engineered exclusively for the Valencia theme park by Great Coasters International Inc. (GCII), Terminator(R) Salvation(TM): The Ride will feature Millennium Flyer coaster trains that zip through five belly-flopping hills and six high speed banked turns over 2, 850 feet of track to create a ride that delivers the acrobatic thrills of a modern roller coaster while retaining the nostalgic look and feel of a classic "woodie."

"Terminator Salvation The Ride is the total package — a stunning one-of-a-kind roller coaster experience merged with the excitement and power of the movie, " stated Jay Thomas, Park President, Six Flags Magic Mountain and Hurricane Harbor. "Six Flags Magic Mountain continues to live up to its unrivaled reputation for bringing the best in thrills anywhere in the world."

Halcyon Company co-CEO’s, Derek Anderson and Victor Kubicek said, "Terminator Salvation is a movie that takes its audience on a emotional roller coaster filled with stunts and special effects that truly blow the viewer away. We could not think of a better way to extend this experience than an actual ride, which is why we are thrilled and honored to partner with Six Flags Magic Mountain on Terminator Salvation The Ride. This ride will allow fans a glimpse into the world that we have created on film."

Terminator Salvation(TM) is the fourth installment to the series and opens in theaters today, starring Christian Bale, Sam Worthington, Moon Bloodgood, Bryce Dallas Howard, Common and Helena Bonham Carter.

Terminator(R) Salvation(TM): The Ride is sponsored by Jeep.
