Amusement Parks: Funtasia Waterpark – a Potted History

Funtasia Waterpark is an amusement park situated in Drogheda, Ireland and is part of the ‘Funtasia’ group

The amusement park takes its design inspiration from the likes of ancient Egypt, the legends of Atlantis and the gardens of Babylon.
Pirates Cove has over 200 gushing water filled activities including, for thrill seekers, the Super Bowl speed slide and the Boomerang. And, whilst this is all going in the amusement park, a giant pirate’s head looms large up up above tipping 500 litres of water sporadically onto the revellers below.

Atlantis Cove is a play area for younger children at the amusement park and it’s not just about having fun in the water as the amusement park also boasts a 14 lane bowling alley, a roller skating rink, rock climbing, crazy golf and a casino as well as lots of video games and simulators. There’s an even the chance to kick back and relax at the amusement park in the Jacuzzi area or enjoy a smooth Cappuccino in the Coffee Dock.

The latest addition to the amusement park this year (2009) is the Sky Climb – an assault course where you’ll be able to ride the zip line, burrow beneath cargo nets and swing across rope ladders.

This is an amusement park which is also very good at catering for large parties – there’s pottery painting, roller skating and disco plus karaoke parties to enjoy, plus many more themed parties.

And, when you fancy a bite to eat after all of the physical exertions at the amusement park, you are well catered for by its Pharaoh’s Restaurant.

The main centre of the amusement park is open from 10am until midnight daily with the casino remaining open until 2am.

This indoor amusement park was actually built on the site of the former Bissell factory which had become disused. It is popular with people of all ages and its location, just 20 minutes off Ireland’s main motorway, the M1 and just 20 minutes from Dublin airport makes the amusement park easily accessible.
