Mountain Creek Waterpark is a water-based theme park located in Vernon, New Jersey.

The water park operates seasonally from approximately Memorial Day up until Labor Day and it resides on a site that, in winter, is more famous for being a popular ski resort.

Both the water park and ski resort are owned by a company called Intrawest, yet in the summertime, the company contracts out the running of the water park to Parques Reunidos which owns and manages many other amusement and water parks around the world.

The water park opened in 1998 but prior to that, there was another amusement park on the same site called Action Park which, whilst being popular, also had a bit of a bad reputation for being poorly run and having a number of safety issues.

Popular rides at the new water park include the Gauley & Thunder Run – a twin ride where on the left hand side, the Gauley riders use a single tube whilst on the right, the Thunder Run is a double tube raft ride.

Bombs Away, at the water park, begins with a steep descent and ends up plummeting you 18 feet down into a spring quarry. Cannonball Falls are twin tubes which are fully enclosed and in which you enter into complete darkness, emerging into the light with a 10-foot drop.

There are also two thrilling cliff top jumps at the water park from which you can hurl yourself into the water below. Little Moe has an 18-foot drop whilst Big Moe has a 23-foot drop. Together, they are known as ‘Canyon Cliffs’.

There are just under 20 rides in total at the water park – the latest being the ‘Alpine Slide’, a 2-person raft ride through pitch black darkness in an enclosed tube.

Younger kids are also well catered for at the water park. There’s the Fishing Village which is an interactive water play fort, complete with two waterfalls, spray cannons and water hoses. In all, there are 5 rides/attractions at the water park aimed at the younger element with Li’l Dippers extremely popular with the toddlers with its beginner’s frog slide and whale fountains.
