As highlighted in my @BlooloopFacts Twitter feed on the Blooloop News page last month, approaching eight million people visited the 10 Chicago institutions that comprise “Museums In the Park” (MIP) – a coalition of Chicago museums located on Chicago Park District property – in 2010. Furthermore, over 1 million school children visited as part of organised field trips and an additional million guests experienced one or more of the MIP museums for free.
The table below table provides attendance details for these museums’ on-site attendance for 2010 , showing that total attendance was 7, 853, 917, a 5% decline over 2009 attendance.
With the inclusion of the additional four world class institutions which alongside the ten museums in MIP are included in a second organisation, “Museums Work for Chicago” , the attendance increases to 14, 437, 986 and the attendance decline falls from 5 to 3%. The additional 4 museums and the 2010 annual attendance are as follows:
Chicago Botanical Garden 904, 864
Chicago Children’s Museum 396, 140
Chicago Zoological Society/Brookfield Zoo 2, 283, 065
Lincoln Park Zoo* 3, 000, 000
