Dewan Architects + Engineers said the attraction at Qiddiya will be the world’s biggest water park.

Dewan Architects + Engineers has been appointed as the lead design consultant for the first water park in Saudi Arabia at Qiddiya, a multibillion-dollar entertainment destination in Riyadh.

The architectural firm has successfully delivered the design for the Middle East’s largest water park and is now supervising the construction.

Dewan Architects said the attraction will be the biggest water park in the world. The team includes architects, water park experts, ride vendors, and engineering and infrastructure professionals.

Qiddiya’s water park will cover 337,948 square metres of land and include 22 rides across nine themed zones. These include Camel Rock, Dub Grotto, Wave Wadi, the Den, Viper Canyon, Arabian Peak, the Herding Grounds and Surf Lagoon.

Dewan Architects is using environmental systems such as recycling and smart usage to minimise the use of water. It is also exploring technologies to help reduce water evaporation.

Some attractions will use 75 percent less water than those found in other water parks. Rainwater will be captured, treated and reused at Qiddiya’s water park.

“We are extremely proud to contribute to Qiddiya and the kingdom with the delivery of the design of this once-in-a-lifetime project,” said Ammar Al Assam, CEO of Dewan Architects.

“The firm is fully committed to HH Mohammed bin Salman’s 2030 vision and looks forward to further growing and developing our footprint in the kingdom.”

Saudi Arabia’s first water park

Earlier this year, Qiddiya awarded a $750 million construction contract to ALEC Saudi Arabia Engineering & Contracting and El Seif Engineering Contracting.

Qiddiya’s managing director Abdullah Aldawood described the water park as “a year-round immersive family entertainment destination, the first of its kind and offering experiences that have never before been offered in Saudi”.

“We are pleased to be working with industry leaders like ALEC and El Seif, who will be using the latest in guest experience technologies to create what is certain to be one of the world’s greatest water theme parks,” he added.

“The park will offer our guests a chance to experience that in a welcoming and fun environment for everyone.”
