Merlin Entertainments has partnered with PREIT (Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust) to launch its next-generation Lego Discovery Centre at Springfield Town Center in Washington DC.
Opening in 2023, the indoor attraction will cover an area of 32,000 square feet. Co-created by the Lego Group and Merlin, the new Lego Discovery Centre will feature a 4D cinema and more than two million Lego bricks.
“We are delighted to be opening an indoor Lego attraction in Washington DC at Springfield Town Center,” said Meike Lippert, senior divisional director for Midway Europe and global new openings at Merlin Entertainments.
“Our Lego-themed attractions have been a huge success across the globe, providing an opportunity for adults and children to spend fun and quality time together in an awesome Lego world,” Lippert added. “We look forward to revealing more special details over the coming months ahead of welcoming our first visitors in 2023.”
Lego play attraction opening in 2023

Merlin’s first Lego Discovery Centre is opening in Brussels in summer 2022. In addition to interactive play experiences, the venue will house a new state-of-the-art Lego Space digital attraction.
“This new attraction helps PREIT achieve its goal of creating high quality purposeful places that serve as one-stop destinations for customers at a key property in a growing market,” said Joseph F. Coradino, chairman and CEO of PREIT.
“Experiential tenants have proven to be great catalysts throughout our portfolio and we expect that, upon opening, our trade area is expected to expand by a two hour drive time, creating success for our existing tenants and demand from others.”
Merlin currently operates 27 Legoland Discovery Centres in North America, Asia, Europe and Australia. The company’s portfolio of attractions also includes nine Legoland Resorts.
“We are so pleased to welcome this new attraction to Fairfax County,” said Supervisor Rodney L. Lusk. “The addition is sure to drive additional economic development, attract a broader array of tourists to our county, and provide a valuable amenity for our residents.”
