Sean McNicholas is CEO of SSA Group, a best-in-class provider of integrated guest services. A nominator described him as “a charismatic and influential leader in the cultural and attraction space, directing SSA Group as the leading concessionaire in the US zoo market”.
Under McNicholas’ guidance, SSA Group has experienced significant growth and expansion in retail, dining and admissions. The nominator added: “With an expansive vision for future growth and diversification, he has positioned SSA Group to lead their partner zoos and aquariums into uncharted territory in the coming years.”
SSA Group also works on green projects, including an initiative with the Monterey Bay Aquarium to reduce plastic waste. Sean McNicholas told Forbes: “We delved into food service, emphasizing hyper-local farmers and fisheries to support the community. We also pioneered the industry’s first gift shop without single-use plastic packaging. We found that guests want to know what we’re doing regarding sustainability.”
Additionally, the company has become the first corporate member of the Aquarium Conservation Partnership (ACP). The ACP brings together leading aquariums and zoos across the US and aims to improve ocean health through projects that reduce plastic waste, safeguard marine ecosystems and wildlife, and encourage sustainable practices.
