BLOOM Joondalup – A Luna Light Journey turned Central Park in Western Australia into a night-time experience led by an unlikely guide: a native blue-banded bee. From 26 September to 2 November 2025, visitors walked through a sequence of illuminated environments that followed its journey through a living, changing landscape. The park was more than a venue. Its trees, paths and open spaces became part of the story.

The innovation lay in treating an existing public park as both the stage and the storytelling medium. Laservision designed a route in which each installation formed a chapter, using shifts in scale, light, sound and pace to evoke the world from the bee’s perspective. Guests could follow the narrative at their own speed, pausing to explore quieter botanical scenes before encountering larger moments of spectacle.

Technology was integrated into the environment. Laser beams passed through the existing tree canopy, turning branches into the architecture of a three-dimensional light space. A 20-metre water screen carried bespoke projected imagery and an original audio composition around growth, pollination and renewal. In selected zones, motion-responsive lighting and projections changed as visitors moved, revealing details and inviting them to take part in the experience. Bespoke soundscapes gave each area its own emotional tone and helped connect the installations into one journey.

These choices made the immersion physical and intuitive. Visitors moved through the story together, with the natural setting always in view. The contrast between intimate garden moments and large-scale water and laser scenes gave the route a rhythm that worked for families and visitors of different ages.

BLOOM also showed how a familiar civic space could become a destination after dark. Developed by Laservision in partnership with the City of Joondalup, the original four-week run was extended by one week in response to demand. The season sold 75,808 tickets, and 62.67% of visitors came from outside the Joondalup area. The event generated approximately A$7.8 million in visitor spending during the event period.

BLOOM’s achievement was to make a local ecological story feel expansive while keeping its connection to place. By using the park itself as an active design element, it offered a model for creating an immersive attraction in public space and gave audiences a new way to experience Joondalup.
