Ahead of the release of Lionsgate and Blumhouse’s new film Imaginary, horror fans in LA will be treated to a new pop-up immersive experience.
The upcoming pop-up, called ‘Blumhouse Presents: Chauncey’s Imaginary Playhouse’, will introduce a new creepy character from the movie – Chauncey the Bear.
In cinemas from 8 March, Imaginary is an American supernatural horror film directed by Jeff Wadlow and starring DeWanda Wise, Tom Payne, Taegen Burns, Pyper Braun, Veronica Falcón and Betty Buckley.
Per a press release, the film follows a young girl named Alice and her imaginary friend Chauncey, except he’s not imaginary and not a friend – “he’s a sinister presence who’ll never leave you”.
“We love creating experiences where our movies can come to life,” said Jason Blum, Blumhouse CEO and founder.
“Your teddy bear will never look the same, and ‘Blumhouse Presents: Chauncey’s Imaginary Playhouse’ is the perfect way to get audiences ready to see the movie.”
In the Imaginary-themed experience, horror fans can explore the world of the movie and “discover the terror that is the truly special friendship between Chauncey and the young Alice”.
They will travel through six rooms, experiencing jump scares, perception-altering audiovisuals and incredible scene recreations.
“Imaginary is not just a scary story about a forgotten imaginary friend looking for revenge – it’s a movie about the terrifying potential of imagination, and how it can be used to access a frightening new world with very real consequences,” said Wadlow.
Horror LBE trend
“Giving fans the playhouse treatment will fully immerse them into Chauncey’s world and set the table for what’s coming on 8 March when Imaginary hits theaters.”
Dani Otero, senior vice president of global paid media at Lionsgate, said: “We also have seen audiences thrill at experiencing horror come to life, as with our Saw experience in Las Vegas.
“When you combine that with Blumhouse – a name audiences trust to uniquely and authentically scare them – you get an extremely fun and memorable marketing experience that’s the perfect setup for a terrifying movie.”
The Imaginary attraction opens on 23 February and runs through March 2. It will be closed from 27-29 February for a special event.
