The London Dungeon, as well as its sister sites in Edinburgh and York, is offering free entry to visitors who want to trade in their copy of Prince Harry‘s memoir Spare.
The tourist attraction described the move as a “noble gesture to help ‘spare’ the new monarch his blushes and clear London’s streets of all questionable literature”.
Via a report in the Independent, the first 75 visitors at each venue who hand over their copy of Spare at the ticket office will enjoy free entry over the coronation weekend.
After coronation day, copies of Prince Harry’s controversial autobiography – ghostwritten by JR Moehringer – will be distributed to charity shops.
‘Clear the streets of questionable literature’
“The royal family and its colourful history has always been part of our attraction’s narrative, so it was important for us to honour His Majesty on the occasion of his coronation,” a Dungeons spokesperson said.
“And what better way than by removing all controversial and unwanted literature, keeping the streets fit for our new king.”
Merlin Entertainments, which owns and operates the Dungeons attractions, is also marking the coronation of King Charles III at some of its other venues.
The London Eye, for example, has recreated Westminster Abbey in its ‘Coronation Capsule’, while Cadbury World in Birmingham has unveiled a life-size chocolate crown.

Elsewhere, Legoland Windsor has added new scenes to its Miniland attraction, with King Charles and Queen Camilla on the balcony of Buckingham Palace wearing their crowns.
“It’s always a joy to be able to recreate iconic moments in British history in Lego form, so we couldn’t miss the chance to mark this once-in-a-generation moment to recreate a coronation in miniature,” said Paula Laughton, the resort’s chief model maker.
Earlier this year, the Blackpool Tower Dungeon celebrated International Women’s Day 2023 with an all-female cast.
