Savoury snack joins the likes of David Attenborough and Shakespeare

The Madame Tussauds attraction in London is set to display a waxwork figure of a Greggs sausage roll for a limited time.

The iconic savoury snack from Greggs was created by Madame Tussauds’ studio artists in celebration of National Sausage Roll Day on 5 June.

It will be on view at the attraction‘s Baker Street location in a zone dedicated to people who have contributed to British culture, such as David Attenborough and Shakespeare.

Rosin Currie, CEO at Greggs, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled that Madame Tussauds London has chosen to honour the Greggs sausage roll in such a unique and iconic way.

“It’s a true celebration of a national favourite, and we couldn’t think of a more fitting tribute in the lead-up to National Sausage Roll Day.

“Seeing our sausage roll receive the celebrity treatment is a proud and slightly surreal moment for all of us at Greggs.”

First food item to get own display

The Greggs sausage roll is the first food item to go on display in its own right at Madame Tussauds.

To create it, the team at Madame Tussauds followed the same process as the human figures after studying dozens of individual Greggs sausage rolls “to ensure we captured its distinct crisp, flakey layers and unmistakable golden glaze”, according to a press release.

The final figure is displayed on a blue velvet cushion, elevated on a classic plinth, and accompanied by a commemorative plaque.

Madame Tussauds London’s studio manager, Jo Kinsey, said the Greggs sausage roll is “synonymous with British culture“.

She added, “Our artists have put in numerous hours to capture every detail of this popular menu item, the pressure was on to capture it perfectly because we know how passionate Brits are about their favourite pastry.

“We took the process very seriously, making this creation the exact same way we make all our figures at the attraction.”
