Manchester City is celebrating a new milestone for its £300 million Etihad Stadium expansion after attaching a new steel structure to the existing North Stand.
The football club is expanding the stadiumās capacity to more than 60,000 for the 2025/26 season, and adding a new fan zone, club shop, 400-bed hotel and museum.
Upon completion, the new North Stand will provide a year-round entertainment destination for Manchester City fans.
Ed Dalton, Manchester City‘s director of infrastructure development, said: “Itās an exciting moment in our building programme for the new steel structure to be attached and bolted to the existing North Stand.
“Fans and visitors can see the extended upper tier progressing, which really gives a sense of the scale of the expansion and how the inclusion of 3,000 new rail seats will add to the electric atmosphere on matchdays.”
Dalton added: “Work is progressing at pace on the development, and weāre looking forward to marking more milestones in the coming months before we welcome fans into the expanded North Stand during the 2025-26 season.”
Year-round entertainment for Man City fans
Per a press release, the infrastructure project is bringing job opportunities and economic growth to Manchester. During the construction phase, the equivalent of 890 full-time roles will be delivered.
Manchester Cityās plans to expand the stadium were approved in October 2023. The first steel beams were then installed earlier this year.
Manchester City fan Angela Owen said: “Itās difficult for me to think about how the stadium could get any better but to see the stand coming in, and the new generations and the new fans coming up through, itās just going to be fabulous. Itās already fabulous ā but this, itās going to be next level.”
