Manchester City is making progress on its Etihad Stadium expansion and entertainment destination, with the first steel beams now installed.
The football club’s plans to expand the stadium with the new City Square fan zone and other year-round experiences were given the final sign-off in October.
The £300 million project, which will increase the stadium’s capacity to more than 60,000, is starting to take shape, Man City said in a press release.
Additionally, the club is developing a new fan zone, club shop and museum, and a 400-bed hotel. Above the upper tier of the expanded North Stand, there will be a sky bar and a stadium roof walk experience.

“It’s been an exciting few months with the arrival and installation of the first steels and fantastic to see the development and progress of the build in recent weeks,” said Danny Wilson, managing director of Manchester City‘s operations.
“This project has been designed with our fans at its heart and demonstrates our commitment to create one of the most memorable fan experiences in world sport. Fans will have the opportunity to extend their match-day by joining us at the new covered fan-zone, visiting the museum, or staying at the hotel.”
During the construction phase, the equivalent of 890 full-time jobs will be created. Wilson added: “The expansion will bring jobs and training opportunities and we’re working with local partners to ensure residents are best placed to take advantage of new job roles, both during construction and beyond.”
New fan experiences
The North Stand expansion is due to be finished and open during the 2025/26 football season. City Square is due to be completed by late 2026.
“The next evolution of the campus is well underway and it’s great to mark the progress being made,” Wilson said.
Elsewhere, the world’s first Real Madrid theme park has opened at Dubai Parks and Resorts.
