Manchester City has submitted a planning application to expand the Etihad Stadium and develop a new fan experience and year-round entertainment destination.
The plans were submitted after the club heard from the local community and fans, who shared their feedback on the designs and concepts.
Manchester City will expand the North Stand and increase the stadium’s capacity to more than 60,000.
Above a new upper tier will be a sky bar with views of the pitch, as well as a stadium roof walk experience.

“Over several months we have been developing concepts and designs for a best-in-class fan experience and year-round entertainment and leisure destination at the Etihad Stadium and are delighted to have now submitted a planning application to Manchester City Council,” said Danny Wilson, managing director of operations for Manchester City.
As previously revealed, the expanded and covered ‘City Square’ fan zone will include various F&B outlets, a new club shop, a museum, and a 400-bed hotel.
Per a press release from the football club, the hotel and F&B outlets will be located on the left flank of the development. All the other facilities will be found on the right flank.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank our fans and the local community for their participation in our recent consultation, not only for completing the questionnaire but sharing their detailed comments and feedback with us, all of which has been carefully reviewed and considered,” Wilson added.
Year-round entertainment destination
“As with all club developments, ensuring our local community benefit is a key priority and we believe these proposals will deliver long-term economic and social opportunities, building on the regeneration work delivered in east Manchester by City Football Group since 2008.”
If the planning application is approved, the building work would take place over a three-year period.
Elsewhere, building work is due to start on Therme Manchester, a new £250 million wellbeing resort and water park.
