Airbnb listing described as a “secluded haven fit for a solitude-seeking ogre

Fans of DreamWorks Animation’s Shrek franchise can spend the night in the ogre’s “mud-laden, moss-covered, murky-watered swamp”, now on Airbnb.

The recreation of Shrek’s home is located in the Scottish Highlands and is described as a “secluded haven fit for a solitude-seeking ogre” and his fans.

Via a press release on Airbnb, Donkey is swamp-sitting this Halloween. “Shrek’s Swamp is lovely. Just beautiful. The perfect place to entertain guests,” Donkey said.

“You know what I like about it? Everything,” Donkey added. “The overgrown landscaping, the modest interiors, the nice boulders, all of it. I can’t wait for guests to experience this muddy slice of paradise for themselves.”

The two-night fairytale stay is available for free, and for up to three guests, from 27-29 October. Guests can request to book from 13 October at 6pm BST.

Shrek’s swamp is located on the grounds of Ardverikie Estate, a 19th-century Scottish mansion. “With its clever use of forestry, charmingly rustic interiors and iconic outhouse, the swamp is certain to offer an experience unlike any other,” says a press release.

Guests will be able to light ‘earwax candles’, tell stories around the fire, and enjoy Donkey’s freshly made waffles in the morning.

The toilet, sink and shower facilities are located approximately 20 metres from Shrek’s swamp, and guests are responsible for their own travel to and from Scotland.

In more news, Universal Studios Florida is opening a new DreamWorks Animation-themed land next year, home to animated characters from franchises including Trolls, Shrek and Kung Fu Panda.

“As guest step into this new land, their imaginations will run wild as they take in the vibrant colors, sights and sounds that surround them,” said Universal Orlando.

Visitors will “share special moments with their favourite characters like Gabby from Gabby’s Dollhouse” and enjoy interactive play areas and attractions inspired by other brands.
