Sapphire® 4K40-RGBH leverages Christie’s deep roots in engineering award-winning visual technology, paired with decades of experience in the themed entertainment market, to create a robust projection solution that exceeds industry expectations.

Designed in response to theme park operators seeking to replace aging lamp-based projectors in 3D attractions, the 40,950-lumen Sapphire 4K40-RGBH is the world’s first high-brightness hybrid RGB pure laser and laser phosphor projector. It is designed for both 2D and 3D applications, front or rear projection, any projection environment, and any screen type. Sapphire delivers superior color comb 3D projection, silver screen polarized 3D compatibility, along with greater reliability, a longer lifespan, and significantly enhanced color and brightness performance than lamp-based and laser phosphor products.

An RGB pure laser illumination system has red, green, and blue lasers that enable the broadest color spectrum, achieving up to 98% of the Rec. 2020 space. As a result, the colors displayed are much closer to what the eye can see in the real world, with extreme hues beyond the reach of other projection technologies. In comparison, a laser phosphor illumination source produces a uniform, but limited spectrum of light, so it’s far more muted in its ability to reproduce color relative to what the human eye can see. However, it’s a very reliable light source with maximum screen compatibility.

Christie® saw this as an opportunity to combine the best of both systems in a hybrid dual illumination design. Sapphire incorporates a dual laser phosphor system comprising two blue laser banks and phosphor disks, and an RGB pure laser light source. This hybrid dual illumination system achieves DCI-P3 color, color comb 3D, and superior low speckle performance.

We partnered with Infitec® to engineer a new 3D glasses technology, which was developed specifically for Sapphire, maximizing its broad color spectrum. Sapphire can “notch out” red, green, and blue for each eye for a spectrum of color that is not possible with any lamp-based or laser phosphor color comb 3D projection system. With a left-eye projector and a right-eye projector, a Christie Intelligent Filter Holder in each, and Infitec 3D glasses, the projector is automatically configured to project passive 3D content onto any surface.

Sapphire includes Christie LiteLOC™ technology to maintain color balance and consistent brightness over time, regardless of fluctuations in ambient temperature, and Christie TruLife+™ electronics with built-in versatile connectivity, eliminating the need for optional input cards. Connections include quad 12G-SDI inputs with full-size BNC’s, four DisplayPort and three HDMI connections, and SDVoE.

Sapphire 4K40-RGBH supports native 4K resolution at 60 Hz. With the Mirage option, the frame rate increases to 4K at 120 Hz 2D or 4K at 60 Hz per eye for 3D content. Mirage Pro further extends frame rate capabilities to 240-480 Hz at 2K resolution in 2D or 120-240 Hz per eye in 3D, scaled to fill the 4K chip.

For seamless multi-projector setups, Sapphire comes with Christie Twist™ for built-in warping and blending capabilities. It's compatible with optional Mystique™ automated camera-based alignment software. Mystique saves time by streamlining alignment, stacking, calibration, and maintenance of multi-projector systems.

Sapphire is also compatible with Christie’s ILS4 lens system, enabling organizations with other Christie 4K 3DLP projectors to redeploy their existing ILS4 lenses without modification—delivering cost savings and operational flexibility.
