Approach

Sustainability

Sustainability is a core tenet of Cuninghams' approach to any project and to the way the company operates as a whole. This holistic approach manifests itself across the design process, whether it's pursuing carbon neutrality, regenerative practices, or interiors focused on wellness. Cuningham’s sustainable design choices are backed by data, with the team experienced with frameworks such as LEED, WELL, and The Living Building Challenge. Through this, they help clients build projects that are sustainable and future-proofed.

Alternative Design Methods

The team at Cuningham are always looking for new ways to improve the design and delivery process. They adapt to the latest technologies that benefit clients and end users, finding ways to improve efficiency, speed, and performance. From modular to prefabricated systems, Cunigham integrates alternative methods early to streamline schedules, cut waste, and enhance quality. Understanding that each project requires its own set of unique solutions, the team tailors their approach to suit each client's goals.

Research

At the start of each new project, Cuningham carries out extensive research into how they can deliver a project that meets clients' needs and most pressing issues. They leverage large amounts of data into project performance and industry benchmarks to ensure their designs deliver measurable results that reflect client objectives and community priorities.

Sectors

Cuningham has worked on attraction industry projects around the world, including museums, cultural sites, theme parks and more. Previous projects included:

  • Disney California Adventure Park - As part of the reimagining of the park in 2008, Cuningham provided design services for attractions, themed retail and dining, cast support, guest services, and back-of-house facilities. This included a recreation of the iconic Carthay Circle Theatre.
  • Minneapolis American Indian Centre - Working alongside Full Circle Indigenous Planning + Design, Cuningham led the architectural, interior, and landscape design for the centre’s major renovation and expansion, creating a modern, culturally expressive space that strengthens MAIC’s community services and its connection to the Franklin Avenue Native American Cultural Corridor.
  • Wetland Boardwalk Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden - Cuningham designed and delivered a new modular, curved boardwalk system that enhances the garden’s historic landscape, integrates flexible features such as benches and railings, and protects the site’s delicate wetland ecosystem.
