UK theme park Dreamland Margate is inviting proposals for a reimagining of Scenic Railway, believed to be the oldest roller coaster in Britain.

Dreamland Margate in Kent announced on Tuesday (27 January) that its Scenic Railway will now "take well-earned retirement from operation as a ride", the park said.

It added: "This is not the end but a new beginning.

"We are committed to developing a new long-term vision that will not only showcase this remarkable Grade II* listed structure but reimagine its purpose, so it can continue to be enjoyed by future generations in a fresh and meaningful way."

This summer, Dreamland will be hosting a pop-up exhibit celebrating the history of the Scenic Railway before its reimagining.

"If you are a creative thinker with a practical approach, or a dreamer with a thoughtful and achievable vision, we would love to hear from you," the park said.

"Your ideas will help shape what comes next for this Margate icon."

According to Historic England, Scenic Railway opened in 1920 and was restored following fires in 1949 and 1957. The wooden coaster was removed from service at Dreamland in 2024 due to a fault.

Considered to be one of the oldest surviving amusement parks in Britain, Dreamland opened in 1920.

In more news for UK coasters, Alton Towers has unveiled its new Bluey attraction, due to open this spring as the world's first Bluey coaster.

Themed to Bluey and Bingo's iconic grannies game, the coaster is called Bluey the Ride: Here Come the Grannies.
