Immersive Creative
Gary Moynihan is an Australian creative leader advancing the growth and professionalism of the immersive experience sector. With over two decades in the creative industries, he combines hands-on project experience with sector-wide initiatives that help shape the future of immersive practice.
Moynihan is the creator of ImmerseUp, a free, open-source toolkit designed to help organisations imagine and develop impactful immersive experiences. Developed with support from Creative Australia and REMIX, the toolkit was launched at the REMIX Summit Sydney and has since become a practical resource for teams across the arts, culture, and visitor experience sectors. Through ImmerseUp, Moynihan champions creative-led, story-driven approaches that balance innovation, sustainability, and audience impact.
He also contributes to shaping the next generation of creators as an industry advisor to Swinburne University’s Immersive Media program, where he supports curriculum development and mentors emerging talent. His teaching approach blends creative strategy, visitor-centred design, and real-world insights from the rapidly evolving immersive landscape.
Previously, Moynihan served as Head of Creative at Grande Experiences and THE LUME, where he led the development of Connection, the world’s most ambitious Indigenous immersive experience. Collaborating with Indigenous artist Wayne Quilliam and art dealer Adam Knight, he guided the project from defining its thematic framework to selecting featured artists. Connection premiered in Canberra in June 2022 and has since toured globally, including major openings in Melbourne (June 2023) and Indianapolis (May 2025).
From the outset, Moynihan worked closely with Aboriginal cultural authorities to maintain integrity in artistic and narrative decisions, ensuring the experience honoured First Peoples’ art while turning visitors into active participants. The project exemplifies Indigenous principles of stewardship, interconnectedness, and shared responsibility, highlighting the power of immersive technology for truth, reconciliation, and emotional connection.
Today, through his consultancy Immersive Creative, Moynihan continues to advise organisations operating in the experience economy, supporting sector development initiatives, publishing insights, and regularly contributing thought pieces to Blooloop and other platforms.
