Meow Wolf unveils artists behind new venue in Houston

Experiential art collective Meow Wolf has unveiled some of the artists and creators behind its fifth permanent installation in Houston, Texas.

Alongside Meow Wolf’s in-house team of artists, a group of more than 40 contributing artists from Texas are creating the new site in Houston’s historic Fifth Ward.

“The brilliance and vision of these artists echo the heartbeat of Houston,” said GONZO247, a lifelong Houston artist and Meow Wolf’s Houston artist liaison.

“Collectively, this exhibition will be a reflection of Houston culture as much as the fantastical realms of Meow Wolf that fans expect.”

Collaborating artists include international art activist Kill Joy, visual artist El Franco Lee II, and one of the few female puppeteers in the Houston theatre world, Afsaneh Aayani.

Han Santana-Sayles, Meow Wolf’s senior director of artist collaboration, added: “I want each Meow Wolf exhibition to be a reflection of relevant contemporary artists in that region.

“In order to find the best creatives to work with, we love consulting with local curators or nonprofits who support emerging artists to build artist lists with us.”

Curatorial contributors to the Houston attraction are arts and culture director Harrison Guy, art administrator and curator Christine West, and interdisciplinary artist Y.E.Torres.

Meow Wolf broke ground on its new exhibition in May 2023. The group will reveal the name, theme and opening date of the upcoming venue at a later date.
