Merlin Entertainments has installed a new solar carport at Legoland Windsor in partnership with Mitie and Zestec's Custom Solar.

The 1.2MW solar carport will produce more than 1.1 million kWh of clean electricity each year and save approximately 190 tonnes of carbon emissions annually.

Together, we’re turning sustainability ambition into action; producing clean electricity, reducing carbon emissions, and supporting greater energy resilience," said Mark Caskey, managing director at Mitie Projects.

Simon Booth, CEO of Zestec Renewable Energy, added: "Delivering renewable infrastructure within a fully operational resort demands careful planning and disciplined execution.

"Working closely with Merlin, Legoland and Mitie, the team prioritised operational continuity and rigorous health and safety controls at every stage.

"The completed solar carport not only provides clean on-site generation but also demonstrates how energy infrastructure can be integrated seamlessly into complex visitor environments."

Now fully operational, the solar carport is supplying on-site renewable electricity across the resort, including its Woodland Village carbon-neutral guest accommodation.

In addition to its environmental benefits, the solar carport provides shaded parking for visitors.

"The solar carport at the Legoland Windsor Resort demonstrates Merlin’s continued commitment to long-term sustainability and investment, delivering the ultimate guest experience," said Dare Ilori, VP of global ESG and sustainability at Merlin Entertainments.

"This further strengthens our mission to becoming carbon neutral in operation by 2030."

Merlin's sustainability goals for 2030 include achieving carbon neutrality in Scope 1 and 2 emissions, removing single-use plastic from all retail merchandise, and reaching a 90 percent recycling and recovery rate across its theme parks.
