For almost 20 years, Fleming has been serving museums either within a museum setting as an educator and exhibitor developer or as a trusted industry consultant with one of the country’s largest design-build firms. Her impact can be found in projects throughout the country.
Fleming joined Roto after working as an exhibit developer, project manager, staff supervisor, and interpretive writer, primarily with the Museum of Life and Science in North Carolina, for ten years. Her experience in the museum industry parallels that of Roto’s founders, and it is mirrored in the company’s guiding principles, which are to create programmes and exhibits with the needs of the visitor in mind, relying on agile approaches to evaluation, effective teaching methods, and a wealth of practical knowledge.
Elizabeth joined Roto in 2017 and has since worked on a wide range of projects, including industry-influencing experiences at Port Discovery (Port & SkyClimber), the National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium (RiverWorks Discovery), and Discovery World (Power On!). Two significant projects that she has contributed to recently opened to widespread acclaim: Uniquely Human at the Kentucky Science Center, and the Norfolk in Time and Aquaticus galleries at Nauticus. After three years of planning, a third project—the American Home Furnishings Hall of Fame—also launched in 2023 with much excitement.
Speaking about Uniquely Human, Fleming said: “We are especially proud of our work on this gallery. To work with a client who recognizes the importance of proactively addressing the emotional and mental health needs of young people by creating this space to have brave conversations is particularly meaningful to our Roto team.
“This exhibit prompts needed conversation and explores how our differences can bring us together. Our world needs more spaces like this.”
Fleming also serves on industry panels and review teams, including with the National Science Foundation and ASTC.
