BluHawk Makes Space for Cosmosphere Satellite Facility

The Cosmosphere a world-renowned science education center and space museum in Hutchinson, Kansashas signed a dealto create asatellite facility in Overland Park,The Cosmosphere Innovation Space.

The Cosmosphere Innovation Space will created atBluHawk. This isa $1 billion mixed-use developmentthat Price Brothers is constructingon 300 acres southwest of 159th Street and U.S. Highway 69.

Doug Price is CEO ofPrice Brothers. He said,“Since the project began, we have wanted to bring the Cosmosphere experience to the people of Overland Park.With the relevance of STEM-centric learning and the Cosmosphere’s reputation for science education and space history, this is a huge win.”


The Cosmosphere Innovation Space will be housed in its own 60,000 square footbuilding.Itwill include interactive science exhibitsandspace artifacts. It also will mean that theCosmosphere’s education programming will bemore easily accessible to students in the greater Kansas City area.

Cosmosphere Innovation Space to Reach More Schools

With the project moving forward, Price Brothers has released a video (above). It highlightsthe kindof activities that will take place within the newfacility.

Dick Hollowell is CEO ofCosmosphere. He said,“For years, we have had a wonderful relationship with the people of Overland Park and Kansas City through education outreach, Scouting, our summer camps and more.

"Having a base in Kansas City will make at least part of the Cosmosphere experience more easily accessible.it will alsomean our education staff can reach more schools and community groups in the greater Kansas City metro area.”

Before signing the agreement, Cosmosphere and Price Brothers established a new nonprofit.This will operate Cosmosphere Innovation Space. It will be administered by a board that includes representatives of Price Brothers, the Cosmosphere and members of the surrounding community. Joe Ontjes of Hutchinsonisa current member of the Cosmosphere Governing Board.He has been named as president of the Cosmosphere Innovation Space board.
