MDM Create brings horror to life for Madame Tussauds

News
MDM Create Annabelle Madame Tussauds

Fictional and real-life characters await victims in New York and London

MDM Create, a leading design and build firm for the visitor attractions industry, has unveiled new bone-chilling visitor experiences on both sides of the Atlantic which started spooking visitors to Madame Tussauds in the lead-up to the Halloween season.

Thanks to MDM Create’s collaboration with Merlin Magic Making on the new Warner Bros. Icons of Horror attraction at Madame Tussauds New York, moviegoers will be instantly transported into modern horror classics. In the new, eerie walk-through experience, characters from some of Warner Bros.’s scariest films—including Pennywise, Annabelle, Regan MacNeil, and more, come to life.

The goal for MDM Create was to create believable, unforgettable, heart-pounding real-world experiences from the original movie scenes. The MDM Create team did justice to the famous originals through concept and design development, adding rich layers of sensory stimulation and beautifully rendered surroundings.

Chamber of Horrors

In the renovated Chamber of Horrors, visitors can get uncomfortably close to notorious crimes at the original waxworks site in London. The staff at Tussauds collaborated with MDM Create to realise their idea, giving tourists memorable encounters with notorious killers like Jack the Ripper, Reggie Kray, Dennis Nilsen, Reggie Kray, John Haigh, and John Christie. MDM Create created intriguing scenarios that will take uninvolved parties straight to the murder scene.

Since it was developed by Marie Tussaud in 1818, the renowned Chamber of Horrors was one of the most well-known horror attractions in the world before it shut its doors, seemingly forever, in 2016. The attraction was reinvented by MDM Create, and it reopened on 22 October 22, 2022 just in time for Halloween.

By recounting the unbelievable tale of Marie Tussaud for a contemporary audience, this immersive experience delves into some terrible history that is relatable to the audience. A full turnkey service was provided by MDM Create, who worked on the attraction from conception to completion, including the gory details like recreating death masks of royals who were executed during the French Revolution, precisely as Marie Tussaud herself did.

Creative Energy

“We have been lucky enough to work on all sorts of attractions and experiences, from bringing to life iconic video games such as Tomb Raider Live, to the exciting Twist illusion museum which will open in Oxford Circus in November, however, I have to say that horror holds a special place in my heart!” says creative director Eddie Saul.

“I have worked with Tussauds on many horror attractions over the past two decades, and seeing visitors experience the fear and thrills we can create through atmosphere and surprise is very rewarding. Seeing the team execute three world-leading horror attractions over the Halloween period in 2022 is a proud moment for us. We will be going to IAAPA full of creative energy off the back of these projects, and cannot wait to see what the industry is up to.”

MDM Create will be at next week’s IAAPA Expo for meetings with current and prospective clients. Meetings can be arranged by email
