The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County (NHMLA) has opened its first virtual reality offering.
Created by California-based VR specialist, Wevr, theBlu: An Underwater VR Experience, takes guests on a CG-created journey in the deep.Guests wear HTC Vive VR headsets and are able to walk around in the environments. The six-minute experienceincludes a close-encounter with an 80-foot blue whale that swims past a sunken ship.
There is also a coral reef experience and a virtual deep dive. What's more, participants can view angler fish and a squid using the Vive’s hand controller as a virtual flashlight.
The museum's Mammalogy Collections Manager, Jim Dines, was involved in the project to ensure accuracy.
