Patrick O’Mahony founded NEWSUBSTANCE in 2004 and has led the creative and wider strategic development of the studio ever since. With over twenty years’ experience realising brave and ambitious creative projects all over the world, he is always looking for new and innovative ways in which to deliver a concept. With a real interest in the use of technology, light and automation, Patrick has a drive to push the boundaries of what is possible in the live environment.
Patrick leads the NEWSUBSTANCE creative team. His work spans across a wide variety of projects, from SEE MONSTER – which transformed a decommissioned North Sea offshore platform into an immersive public art project; to Spectra – the first resident large-scale art installation at Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival; and creative design and development across multiple Opening Ceremonies, including Dubai Expo 2020. Patrick is also one of the founding directors of SKYMAGIC, the world leading drone light show studio, where he oversees the wider creative development of drone shows across the world.
Over the past 20 years Patrick has developed and built NEWSUBSTANCE into a multi-award-winning creative studio from its HQ in Leeds, with recognition from Dezeen, Architizer, International Design Awards, Architect’s Newspaper and Design Week to name but a few.
