ABS-CBN Corp, an entertainment and media conglomerate based in the Philippines, will open an indoor theme park inside Ayala Malls TriNoma.

The experience will be based in the mall and will be called ABS-CBN Studio XP.

Cookie S. Bartolome, head of ABS-CBN’s themed experience, said that ABS-CBN Studio XP costs will be “significantly lower” than KidZania. Despite this, the park is hoped to be a key driver in boosting the company’s revenues.

Bartolome said: “We’re able to serve the market that KidZania is not able to serve here, so it’s complementary to that business.”

It is hoped that the park will provide immersion for senior and junior high school aged students. Bartolome said it would be a hyper real experience for people who may chose to pursue media arts.

There will be 15 attractions grouped into 3 studios: fantasy, reality and retail.

The fantasy studio will allow visitors to mimic action scenes using augmented reality.

The reality studio replicates famous TV shows including “The Voice,” “Minute to Win It” and “Pinoy Big Brother” and allows visitors to take part in the show.

The retail studio will put various ABS-CBN souvenirs and merchandise on display.

The themed store will also feature an 80-seater, 4D theatre for screening of short films, shows, or live events. It could also be used as a centre to host eSports tournaments.

Bartolome said that the ABS-CBN Studio XP could be expanded or replicated elsewhere, dependent on the success.

She said: “We just wanna see first how the business goes in terms of the mix between retail and attractions.

“So we’re trying to understand what can drive the [revenue] — can attraction drive it or will the attraction drive the retail revenues?”

So called “retailtainment” has been a trend in recent years, with shops adding additional entertainment to draw customers in.
