Audubon Aquarium of the Americas has announced they will open an escape room next month. “Escape Extinction: Sharks” will be a family friendly interactive escape room presented by Escape My Room.

Audubon will host the experience, in which guests are tasked with saving sharks from extinction.

Groups of up to 12 can participant in the experience. They will receive receive a rank based on performance – which will encourage repeat visitation to try and beat their score. Visitors do not need to purchase a ticket to the aquarium to try the escape room – but combination tickets for both experiences are available.

Guests board the SS Audubon, where they experience different interactive areas. In each, they will take part in games and puzzles. To complete the mission, guests must save the sharks and board the escape pod. The mission will take about an hour.

Andrew Preble, Founder of Escape My Room, said: “We’re super excited about bringing Escape Extinction: Sharks to the community. The attraction is somewhat similar to an escape room, but much more cinematic and family friendly,

“Working with Audubon to develop this attraction has been a really great experience. The whole mission is to make guests aware of declining shark populations, and to help them realize what sharks are doing for us and what we can do to help sharks.”

Brenda Walkenhorst, Director of Education Projects at Audubon Nature Institute, said: “As an educator, this is important to me. This is a new take on an escape room and it lets families come inside, learn about sharks, play puzzles and games. I can’t think of a better way to learn about shark conservation.”

Escape rooms, familiar to online gamers, are swiftly gaining fans in their real-life incarnation with rooms springing up across the globe. Players work together to find a way out through code-breaking, puzzles, tasks and challenges.
