Aerial Illuminations drones in the shape of a city scape with a spoon and cherry

Postcard from Minnesota

Aerial Illuminations provides night time aerial drone shows across the country.

After the loss of 3 first responders in our hometown last year, we partnered with the City of Burnsville to create a memorial using the fallen officers badges and names in the sky.

This took months of planning and talks with city leaders & police and fire chiefs to make this come together. During the planning process, we put this sequence into a storyboard to create iconic imagery from around the state, ending with the tribute. The other iconic scenes included a theme park, ski hills and the cityscape of Minneapolis.

Music is a big part of our hometown so we partnered with the Price Legacy Group to custom design another record breaking image...a portrait of the legendary Prince. Creating this 500ft wide portrait took skill, time and precision. Our 20 year experience in the sound and light industry helped create the immersive environment by synchronizing music to each second of the show.

This show isn’t just a visual display—it’s a cohesive story, told in three acts, with emotional highs and lows. From iconic state landmarks to a tribute to Prince, to the heart-wrenching memorial for fallen first responders, each chapter is part of a greater narrative arc. Coordinating 1,000 drones to form intricate, high-resolution 3D images 400 feet in the air—in real time—required months of planning and a 40+ member crew.

It’s an achievement in engineering, choreography, and logistics that pushes the boundaries of what's possible in live entertainment. In a world craving both innovation and connection, this project delivers both—through light, movement, and story. It’s not just a show. It’s a new medium of expression, and a glimpse into the future of shared experiences.

We truly believe that drone shows is the future of aerial entertainment and are so happy to have been able to do this show for our hometown state.
