US Olympic and Paralympic Museum

The United States Olympic and Paralympic Museum is one of the most accessible museums in the world, offering a world-class experience regardless of physical or cognitive ability. The museum in Colorado Springs includes 20,000 square metres dedicated to interactive exhibits.

In the Athlete Training gallery, visitors test their speed, agility, strength, and endurance through full-body manipulatives and digital interactives, participating in various Olympic and Paralympic sports. They stand shoulder to shoulder with Team USA athletes, competing alongside these heroes in sports like skiing, sledge hockey, archery, and goalball. Visitors can sprint against a US athlete, steer a skeleton sled, and more, simulating athletic training in the museum’s interactive galleries.

All media is designed with inclusivity at its heart, allowing visitors of all abilities to experience the exhibits through advanced assistive technologies like video captions, audio descriptions, and RFID-powered customization. Accessibility services, chosen during guest registration, are tailored throughout each exhibit, with features such as text-to-speech screen readers, high contrast, larger font sizes, and sign language support.

Visitors can also interview athletes by asking questions about their choice of virtual Olympic and Paralympic athletes. Paralympian Matt Scott, the wheelchair basketball superstar, answers over 2000 questions using artificial intelligence (AI) – powered technology.
