Construction is underway on a new record-breaking roller coaster set to open at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey in 2027.

The new attraction is replacing the park's legendary Kingda Ka, which was the tallest coaster in the world until it was closed in November 2024 and later demolished.

The Intamin ride was pulled down in a series of controlled explosions in March 2025. It is being replaced with a record-breaking launch coaster.

Via a Six Flags blog post, the first sections of track for the new coaster have arrived on site, marking the beginning of visible construction.

The project "will become one of the most impactful additions in our park's history", Six Flags said.

Building work is starting after extensive planning and preparation, and will continue over the coming months.

Full details about the attraction will be shared at a later date, but Six Flags said the "scale of the materials... gives a glimpse into the importance of what’s ahead".

"This milestone is just the first of many as we move toward delivering an experience designed to elevate our lineup in a major way," it added.

Following the demolition of Kingda Ka, which stood at 456 feet high, the world's tallest coaster can now be found at Six Flags Qiddiya City in Saudi Arabia.

As well as being the world's tallest coaster, Falcons Flight is also the fastest and longest coaster on the planet.

Six Flags Qiddiya City, the first Six Flags theme park outside of North America, opened on 31 December 2025.
