Akun will provide adventure and sports experiences at the Red Sea and Amaala.

Red Sea Global has launched a new adventure sports company for Saudi Arabia called ‘Akun’, which comes from Arabic and means ‘to be’.

Akun will offer adventure and sports experiences at the Red Sea and Amaala. It is the third subsidiary business to be announced by Red Sea Global this year.

In February, the company launched two new brands, Wama and Galaxea, to provide water sports and diving experiences at the upcoming attractions.

“At Red Sea Global, we believe the experiences available for our guests are just as important as the destination itself, and this new brand will provide them with world-class experiences in land and in connection with the sky above,” said John Pagano, Red Sea Global‘s group CEO.

“Akun will offer a diverse range of ‘bucket list’ adventures set in, over and throughout breath-taking sea and landscapes, and each builds on the exciting sense of exploration we nurture at our destinations.”

Through the Akun brand, guests will have access to gravel, mountain, fat tire and electric biking, as well as running and hiking through diverse natural trails. There will also be climbing, scrambling and other action sports.

Additionally, Akun will work with the local communities in each development to create conservation and cultural trails.

“Combined with Wama and Galaxea, our water sports and diving brands, we can now offer a full trio package of sporting experiences ahead of our first guests arriving at the Red Sea this year,” Pagano added.

“Aligning with these brands and our broader company vision, Akun will operate with sustainability at its core and in line with our regenerative ambitions to protect and enhance the local environment.”

“Unlock the potential of our land, sea and skies

Akun has already signed two initial partnership deals with operators Bungy New Zealand and Air Sports Group.

“Akun focuses on discovery – discovering yourself and your physical and mental strength and discovering the kingdom,” said Rosanna Chopra, Red Sea Global’s executive director, destination development.

“Through such partnerships with leading international experts, we are confident that we can successfully unlock the potential of our land, sea and skies, welcoming guests to find their way in this new adventure playground.”

Three resorts at the Red Sea will open this year, as well as the first phase of the destination’s airport. In 2024, an additional 13 hotels will open.

Upon completion in 2030, the Red Sea will feature 50 resorts across 22 islands and six inland sites, as well as luxury marinas, golf courses, entertainment, leisure and F&B.
