The Red Sea‘s first hotels and international airport are launching this year

Red Sea Global has shared a construction update for Saudi Arabia‘s The Red Sea development, six years after the project was first announced.

“We stand at the brink of an extraordinary moment as we prepare to unveil The Red Sea destination to the world,” said John Pagano, group CEO at Red Sea Global.

“In six years, we have made exceptional progress, creating exquisite resorts and best-in-class, sustainable infrastructure in a remote location, demonstrating innovation in line with our regenerative approach and commitment to responsible development.”

Desert Rock, a mountain resort being built into the rock face, is more than 50 percent complete, and work is ongoing on all 11 resorts and infrastructure across Shura Island – the main hub of The Red Sea.

On Sheybarah Island, Red Sea Global has installed all 38 stainless steel overwater villas, and the first beach villas have arrived at the island.

The Red Sea‘s first three hotels and the first phase of its international airport are on track to launch later this year.

“We are ready to deliver countless more extraordinary moments on our journey to positioning Saudi Arabia proudly on the world stage as a must-visit destination,” added Pagano.

The Red Sea on track to open this year

Upon completion in 2030, the destination will offer 50 resorts with up to 8,000 hotel rooms and more than 1,000 residential properties across 22 islands and six inland sites. It will also include luxury marinas, golf courses, entertainment, F&B, and leisure facilities.

Red Sea Global has already installed 750,000 solar panels and five solar stations to power the destination’s first phase.

“One of my favourite sayings is that we’re inspired by nature, but we’re led by science,” Pagano told blooloop in a recent interview.

One of the solar stations is located close to the Six Senses Southern Dunes resort, which will be the first hotel to open at The Red Sea in the coming months.
